About Us

Welcome to our Hybrid Nanomaterials Engineering Research group at the Cambridge Graphene Centre (CGC). The group is led by Dr Tawfique Hasan. We started as a "functional ink" group in 2013 and have gradually moved our focus into various nanomaterials. We try to understand the underlying fundamental phenomena to engineer these materials for photonics, (opto)electronics, sensing and energy.

Our work encompasses Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science and Nanotechnology, and interfaces between industry and academia with fundamental and applied research. We employ creative synthesis, processing, device fabrication of functional 0 (0D), 1 (1d) and 2 dimensional (2d) materials. By exploiting them individually or in combination and sometimes with computational approaches, we are developing "nanomaterial-enabled" device platforms, with batch to batch manufacturability for photonics, optoelectronics, sensing and energy harvesting. 'Hybrid materials engineering', exploiting the unique characteristics of various nanomaterials and synergies between them is therefore the core theme of our ambitious multidisciplinary research, with a view towards real world applications.
